#Healthy2018…Finally Getting on Track!

Guys, I did it… I ate baby spinach recently and I didn’t die. It didn’t taste wonderful, but I can’t say that it was terrible. It was part of my initiative to be a little bit healthier this year.

Now, you may be thinking, “I said the same thing, and every year, it only lasts for a week.” Well, my brother gave me a fitbit, so now it’s like I have a coach watching me 24/7. To be honest, it’s okay! It has actually been helping me to eat healthier, drink more water, and hit the gym multiple times per week. So far, things are going pretty well. I have a cheat meal here and there, but my body is definitely starting to feel better.

I’m also using it to track my sleep! It’s scary to see how much I am sleeping sometimes… but I am trying harder to stick to my bedtime. Right now I try to be asleep between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., preferably closer to the 10:30 p.m. side.

I mean, who doesn’t want more sleep?

As far as my diet goes, for the most part, I only drink water. Maybe fruit juice in the morning, or a soda or a drink on a special occasion, but for the most part, I aim for 3-4 bottles of water every day.

I also try to plan my carbs out. If I am eating a sandwich then I try to not have cereal for breakfast. If I am eating ham and cheese wrapped up in lettuce or something else that doesn’t have bread, then I am free to eat waffles, pancakes… whatever I want! I’m also usually not very hungry until around 9:00 a.m., so I usually have a lighter breakfast and then eat a yogurt as a mid-morning snack. Then I eat lunch that includes pretzels, a granola bar, chips, or something else of that nature, and then eat a banana, carrots, or something else healthy around 3:00 p.m. Eating small, frequent meals is the way to go. My momma is in charge of deciding on diner.

Usually on Friday I can have a little treat, like some cookies, ice cream, or another yummy dessert. However, I’m not afraid to have a small piece of candy during the weekday. Eating well and having one piece of candy every now and then isn’t going to make me unhealthy.

Let’s be real.

One of the most difficult parts is being a picky eater– I only like certain fruits and vegetables. But, I am trying to be more open minded about eating healthier food. Slowly, but I am trying.

Work out wise, I do cardio and weights. I like to do the elliptical, weights that help tighten my core, and stuff for my arms. Usually about 20-30 minutes of cardio does the trick. If I am doing only cardio (NOT FUN), then I do an hour, but I only do that once per week, if I feel like I have the strength.

Lord help me.

Overall, God gave me one body, and it’s my duty to take care of it for Him, myself and future and with the help of my fitbit, especially tracking what I eat and drink, I am excited to see my progress.

In fact, I have already lost a few pounds. Woohoo!

What are you doing to take care of your body this year?

XO!

  1. I am all about the Whole30 diet. It has completely changed my life in so many ways. Reduces inflammation and promotes healthy digestion—so important to get and Stay healthy!

  2. Congrats on being off to a good start. I just want to say I love that your focus here is on feeling better, not looking better. Those few pounds are just a nice side effect. My daughter doesn’t want to admit she likes spinach so she calls it “fancy lettuce.”
